F-4B Phantom II
BuNo.153020 / NF-100
“Rock River 100”
Lt. CDR. Ronald “Mugs” McKeown
RIO Lt. Jack Ensch
VF-161 “Chargers”
USS Midway, 1972
Skin representing one of the “MiG Killers” of the Vietnam War belonging to the VF-161 “Chargers” squadron.
This particular aircraft started this naval career assigned to the VF-92 “Silver Kings” aboard the Big E in 1968. After a few tours with a couple of other squadrons, it finally came home with the “Chargers” where it was flown by Lt. CDR Ronald “Mugs” McKeown.
Capt. Ron McKeown and R.I.O. Capt. Jack Ensch were flying this Phantom II "Rock River 100" on the day when the pair scored a double victory, downing two MiG-17's on 23rd of May 1972. This was the Wing Commander's aircraft, which always was a little different than the other aircraft of the squadrons, as you see with the "USS Midway" lettering.
