STRF 9040C as CV 9030N, "Virgo" Stormeskadron 3, Panserbataljonen, Brigade Nord, Setermoen, Winter, early 2000s
A last look at the CV 90 for a little bit, this time the European tour is stopping off in Norway.
Norway initially purchased 104 CV 90s with the 30mm Bushmaster II, to replace their aging M113 based fleet of IFVs. Virgo is seen here on winter manouevres, sadly without all the winter stowage on the rear. I really liked the way the crew had used white-wash over just certain areas, and obviously leaving the markings and reflectors clear.
I also liked the way the gripping surface strips where more visible through it, and the ice from condensation from the engine exhaust. Also obviously it has a skull and cross-bones on the side, which is always a winner.
The Norwegian army was the first export customer for the CV 90, with several changes beyond the gun, and as with other vehicles some components and the turret were manufactured in Norway, along with final assembly. They also had an uprated engine and the MEXAS armour package. This was further added to for 17 vehicles earmarked for NATO deployment, which received the German developed AMAP package to enhance protection against mines alongside other upgrades. These vehicles were sent to Afghanistan as part of ISAF, replacing the earlier deployed straight CV 9030Ns, the CV 9030NF1 served there from 2006.
In 2012 a deal was signed to upgrade the fleet alongside procurement of an additional vehicles bringing the numbers up to 164 including many in specialised roles as well as IFVs.
